July 21-26, 2007
The Midwest Presbytery summer conference returned this year to "Covenant Heights" This year's camp, as in years past was largely planned by the youth of our presbytery. Keith Mann and Craig Milroy, both of the springs RPC served as Camp Director and Manager. As they have in past camps, Kieth and Craig did another outstanding job.
This year's guest speaker was Rev. Steven Work, who is pastor of the Quinter RPC in Quinter, Kansas. The topic was "Revival: God's Radical Restoration of his People"
The camp this year was once again held earlier in the summer in an effort to not interfere with the beginning of the school year in most of Kansas. This aided a large turnout from our presbytery's youth. The CY, or "Covenanter Youth" group is as strong and vibrant as ever. This year we had around 120 registrants.
As a conference locale, Covenant Heights has gone through many improvements since our last camp there in the mid-80s. Most notably, a new dining hall has been built which provides a very comfortable dining, and fellowship experience. There are also some new outdoor resources that campers of all ages (literally!) were able to enjoy. These items included a 1000 foot "Zip line", a rock wall and high and low ropes courses. In addition to these new items was the collection of tried and true recreation resources: the miniature golf course (updated and well kept), the basketball courts, 2 sand volleyball courts and plenty of other playground equipment.
Next year we will be able to worship in a brand new chapel that is planned for construction between now and then. The plans for the chapel were on display in the dining hall. It looks like it will be a beautiful venue.
