Covenant Heights - 2006

July 22-27, 2006

The Midwest Presbytery summer conference returned this year to a beloved site of years gone by: "Covenant Heights"!!! This year's camp, largely planned by the youth of our presbytery, was directed and managed by Keith Mann and Craig Milroy, who, as they have in past camps, did another outstanding job.

This year's guest speaker was Rev. Anthony Selvaggio, who is pastor of the College Hill RPC in Beaver Falls, Pa.  The topic was "A Call to Worship: A Study of Our Highest Calling".  The topic focused on the Bible teaching from Deuteronomy 12:1-14.  Rev. Selvaggio's lectures were of quality and clarity and were of benefit for campers of all ages.  Three subtopics were expounded upon:

The camp this year was held earlier in the summer in an effort to not interfere with the beginning of the school year in most of Kansas.  This decision proved to be a good one as we saw over 25 CY registrants, which was an increase of 20 or so from last year.  Total attendance this year was approximately 112 full-timers--a good-size group, especially for the first time at the changed location and time of the summer.  Once the word spreads throughout the presbytery about how good the new Covenant Heights experience was, there are high expectations that attendance will grow significantly next year.

As a conference locale, Covenant Heights has gone through many improvements since our last camp there in the mid-80s.  Most notably, a new dining hall has been built which provides a very comfortable dining, and fellowship experience.  There are also some new outdoor resources that campers of all ages (literally!) were able to enjoy.  These items included a 1000 foot "Zip line", a rock wall and high and low ropes courses.  In addition to these new items was the collection of tried and true recreation resources: the miniature golf course (updated and well kept), the basketball courts, 2 sand volleyball courts and plenty of other playground equipment.

Next year we will be able to worship in a brand new chapel that is planned for construction between now and then.  The plans for the chapel were on display in the dining hall.  It looks like it will be a beautiful venue.
